My Story

About Dani — Lead Instructor, Let’s Mahj Willamsburg

I found Mahjong at a moment when I needed connection the most — a little over a year postpartum, craving community, belonging, and a place to land. What started as a simple hope for a seat at a table became something much bigger: a path back to myself, and eventually, a calling to help others find that same sense of welcome.

I began teaching as Ms. Mahjong Muse, never imagining how quickly this game would weave people together. The joy, the friendships, the laughter around the table — it changed me. And when Let’s Mahj RVA opened their arms to me, inviting me into their community with warmth and generosity, everything clicked. Their values matched mine: intentional teaching, genuine connection, and a belief that Mahjong is more than a game — it’s a gathering place.

Today, I’m honored to bring that vision home as Let’s Mahj Williamsburg, serving Williamsburg and New Kent with the support of a team whose expertise, heart, and systems elevate everything we do.

My goal is simple:
To create spaces where you feel welcomed, encouraged, and part of something meaningful — whether you’re learning your very first Charleston or settling in for a night of guided play.

Here’s to the tables that brought us together, and all the new ones we’ll build.

Let’s Mahj RVA started from a deeply personal place. As a mom to three young adult children- one with a disability- owner, Emilie Rabke found herself navigating a season where the typical milestones had ended, but the caregiving journey continued. She realized that if she was going to sustain this path well, she needed something that filled her cup. So she turned back to a game her mom taught her over 30 years ago, never expecting it would become both an outlet and a calling. What began as a way to care for herself has grown into a community that’s blessing others too.
